Celiac Sprue Association - Wichita, KS

What is Celiac Sprue? Celiac disease is a genetic disorder. In people with celiac disease, eating certain types of protein, called gluten, sets off an autoimmune response that causes damage to the small intestine. This causes the small intestine to lose its ability to absorb the nutrients found in food, leading to malnutrition and a variety of other complications. There is no cure. The only treatment is a lifelong adherence to a gluten-free diet.

About Me

Wichita CSA Chapter #36
Welcome to our blog site. We are the Wichita chapter of the Celiac Sprue Association. We meet about once per quarter (approx. 4 times per year). Sometimes we have speakers, sometimes not. We usually have a theme for the food to bring. Everyone brings something gluten-free for the others to try. The recipe is usually supplied and used in the next newsletter. We also eat out together. A group of us will get together and go eat at a local restaurant. These CEO's (Celiacs Eating Out) are also about 4 times per year.
