What is Celiac Sprue? Celiac disease is a genetic disorder. In people with celiac disease, eating certain types of protein, called gluten, sets off an autoimmune response that causes damage to the small intestine. This causes the small intestine to lose its ability to absorb the nutrients found in food, leading to malnutrition and a variety of other complications. There is no cure. The only treatment is a lifelong adherence to a gluten-free diet.

Celiac Booth at GreenAcres Market
A wide selection of gluten-free food is available at GreenAcres Market, 8141 E 21st, as well as frequent classes and demonstrations on various kinds of healthy eating. On Saturday October 15, they are sponsoring a special gluten free day and have offered the Wichita celiac chapter a booth. If you are willing to help answer questions and give out information for one hour between 11a and 3p, please contact Gayle Cloud (788-2531, takncare4@yahoo.com) for more information and to specify which hour you might prefer. We would like 2 or 3 people there each hour.
