March and April 2012

Potluck Dinner

Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 24, when the Celiac support group will enjoy an outstanding potluck lunch at 1:00. The meeting is at East Evangelical Free Church, 14725 East Harry, Wichita. Please bring one or two covered dishes and your table service. Drinks will be provided. Please provide a recipe for each item that you bring, so that members with other food allergies can read the ingredients before eating! Recipes may also be included in future newsletters, so your name on the recipe is appreciated.

Dale Huntington, a local food fan who has Celiac disease, will talk about his experiences eating out in Wichita. Following his move from California, he determined to learn how to survive as a Celiac in a wheat state. Dale’s blog, “Gluten Free in Wichita,” describes some of his experiences! You are sure to enjoy this program.

We will also hear about a new medicine for treating the symptoms and effects of celiac disease, now in an investigational drug study at Heartland Research Associates here in Wichita. Sandra Sparr, research director, will give us a brief overview of the study, qualifications to participate, and future possibilities for this medication, should it be
approved by the FDA.

Directions to East Evangelical Free Church: From K-96 and Kellogg, travel about 1/3 mile east on Kellogg to 143rd Street, then turn right (south) and travel one mile to Harry. Turn left (east) on Harry. The church is about 1/3 mile from 143rd, on the south side of Harry. Enter through the double doors on the east side of the building. See you there!
