Park Grounds Coffeehouse in Derby has closed.  We will replace that restaurant date after the group makes suggestions.

We are starting CEOs (celiacs eating out) again in 2019.  If  there is dangerous weather we will cancel.  Usually the weather people will say  "stay home".  As always, friends and family are welcome, including those that eat  gluten.  We need to have a phone call/ email 3 days before the date so we can tell the restaurant how many will be coming.  Refer to the phone numbers and email addresses on the side of this page.  We encourage new people to come and ask questions since we no longer hold meetings.

I tried the Home Grown Restaurant on the west side and it is delicious!  It is kind of gourmet  and healthy.  The east side will be getting one somewhere in the next year.

Eating out has improved so much over 18 yrs.!  I really don't ever get "gluttoned" anymore.  It's been over a year.  Have you gotten exposed to gluten from a restaurant?  Send us a message and we will print it.  There are so many gluten free menus now.  You still need to have knowledge and ask questions to keep safe.  Such as: asking about if the soy sauce is GF, asking about cross contamination as in fried foods, any thickening in sauces, etc.

I just tried Bob's Red Mill Paleo flour blend.  It is gluten free and also lower carb.  I made the blueberry muffins on the back and they were the best I've found!  The outside is crispy and the inside is tender, soft!

I read an article by Suzie Cohen, America's Most Trusted Pharmacist, about biotin helping the thyroid and also helping MS patients grow some myelin.  You must read the whole article before trying this.  I am discovering that all of my health issues stem from intestinal problems of celiac.  Biotin is supposed to be produced there if all is working like it should.

I just read something disappointing!  It seems Party City had planned a Super Bowl 2018 commercial making fun of people that require the gluten free diet!  There was a large protest and the company apologized and sent a donation to celiac groups.  We live in such an unkind world where bullying is so common.  I hope they don't show this on the Super Bowl,  we will see what happens.

I read an interesting comment about the Chik-Fil-A bun.  One person said she would "pass" on the bun.  I think if you are newer to the gluten free diet you probably think the bun is not soft enough.  I have been doing it for 17 yrs. and have been glad to have a GF bun that holds together so well.  It does take some adjustment to change any life long diet habit.  Plus, I really think most of us were actually addicted to wheat.  It is like losing a best friend! But, the rewards of good health are soooo great! I will never go back to my pre-gluten free days!

We are not having meetings anymore but will continue to eat out together in 2018.  Everyone is welcome, including wheat eater family and friends!  Watch this blog for updates.

I am sorry we have not updated this blog for a while due to surgeries, kitchen remodel, holidays and just LIFE!  We are BAAAACK!

I just discovered a great treatment for my eczema.  Vitamin E oil!  I used it on my leg when it began itching and it never spread to a rash.  Eczema is associated with Celiac Disease and can be so discouraging!  I have never read a study to use this probably because there would be no money in it.  It is a very cheap way to prevent this and will probably improve my immune system and overall health.  A 2017 study showed that celiacs still have vitamin deficiencies 10 yrs. after diagnosis.  The fat soluble vitamins are one of our problems.  I hope this helps someone!

I have heard several people mention a new restaurant:  Home Grown.  It is across from the new, north Sams Club on north Maize.  Can't wait to try it!

I used the new Panko bread crumbs and they were great.  Used it for Chicken Parmesan.  There is Udi's brand and Ians.  There might be more.  If we use new products maybe the stores will keep them stocked for us.
